The Casd, what is it?
• The Casd is the acronym for Centre d'accès sécurisé distant aux données (CASD).
• It is a secure access device to confidential data.
• It is addressed to researchers for the purposes of historical or scientific research.
This project dates from February 2010. Initiated by the Genes and the Insee, the project now has 500 researchers participating in over 200 research projects.
This type of access has long existed in most other countries. In France, the 2008 modification of the statistical law (n° 51-711 of 7 June 1951) has made it legally possible for researchers to access confidential data on individuals and households. The Casd helps ensure maximum security conditions.
The Casd provides a service based on a dedicated technical equipment, which guarantees optimal conditions for data security:
• A central IT infrastructure guaranteeing data confidentiality.
• The SD-Box ™ boxes: the only means of access to the central infrastructure. They are made available to service users, with a biometric reader.
With a remote access system, the Casd guarantees a comfortable, responsive, and flexible service in the use of data. Researchers can therefore conduct their research without having to move.
